DELL PowerConnect 2808 Smart Switch

• Providing network connectivity for laboratory equipment and test benches.
• Connecting industrial control systems and PLCs within a localised network segment.
• Facilitating data exchange between various devices in small-scale manufacturing cells.
• Supporting office network infrastructure in industrial environments.

Typical port count

This model features 8 Gigabit Ethernet ports.

Switching capacity

For this class of equipment, switching capacity is typically sufficient for small to medium network loads.

Management type

Units of this type commonly offer smart management features, including web-based GUI and basic CLI.

Power supply

Typically operates on standard AC mains power, commonly 100-240V, 50/60Hz via an external or internal power supply unit.

Mounting

Often designed for desktop use or rack-mounting with optional kits, depending on the specific unit.

Throughput

Gigabit ports provide up to 1000 Mbps per port, suitable for high-speed data transfer within a local network.

• What is a 'smart switch'?

A smart switch offers more management features than an unmanaged switch, such as VLANs, QoS, and port monitoring, but is less complex than a fully managed switch.

Control units and PLC modules are valued for their reliability and precision in laboratory and pharmaceutical environments. Buyers typically prioritise units with clear documentation and verified operational history, as proper maintenance directly affects performance. Common strengths include robust construction, compatibility with existing systems, and long operational lifespans. When purchasing used equipment, inspecting calibration records and testing functionality before installation remains standard practice. These systems generally command steady demand due to their essential role in process automation and facility management.
