CAS Biomat 2 Microbiological Safety Cabinet

• Protecting personnel and the environment from biohazards in microbiology laboratories.
• Handling cell cultures and viral vectors in research and development settings.
• Performing sterile manipulations in pharmaceutical quality control.
• Preparing samples for diagnostic testing in clinical laboratories.

Typical capacity

Work zone widths commonly range from 900mm to 1800mm for this class of equipment.

Power supply

Units of this type typically operate on a standard single-phase 230V, 50Hz supply.

Filtration

Commonly features HEPA filters for both exhaust and downflow air, ensuring particulate removal efficiency of 99.995% for 0.3 micron particles.

Airflow type

Class II cabinets like the Biomat 2 typically provide vertical laminar flow within the work zone and an inward air barrier at the front aperture.

Construction material

Work surfaces and interior panels are commonly constructed from stainless steel for ease of cleaning and decontamination.

External dimensions

Footprints vary significantly, but typical depths are around 700-800mm and heights around 1300-1500mm, excluding stands.

• What is the primary function of a Microbiological Safety Cabinet?

Its primary function is to protect the user, the product, and the environment from airborne particulates and aerosols generated during microbiological work.

• What class is the CAS Biomat 2 likely to be?

• What maintenance is typically required for these cabinets?

• Can this unit be used for chemical fume extraction?

• Is installation complex for a used unit?

Biosafety cabinets are valued for their critical role in protecting operators and samples during hazardous work. Buyers typically prioritise certification compliance and airflow integrity when purchasing used units. Industry sentiment emphasises the importance of verifying maintenance history and airflow testing records. Key strengths include durability of construction and long operational lifespans when properly maintained. Common considerations focus on filter condition, energy efficiency, and compatibility with existing laboratory infrastructure. Reliable performance and consistent operator protection remain central to buyer expectations.
