GEA Multidrum

• Marinating meat, poultry, and seafood products to enhance flavour and tenderness.
• Tumbling and coating snacks, nuts, and confectionery items for even seasoning.
• Mixing various food ingredients to achieve homogeneous blends.
• Massaging cured meats to improve texture and yield.

Typical capacity

For this class of equipment, capacities commonly range from 500 kg to several tonnes per batch, depending on the specific model.

Power supply

Units of this type typically require a 3-phase industrial power supply, commonly 400V, 50Hz, with varying power consumption based on drum size and motor.

Drum material

The drum and contact parts are typically constructed from food-grade stainless steel (e.g., 304 or 316) for hygiene and durability.

Vacuum capability

Many GEA Multidrum models feature integrated vacuum systems to improve product absorption and reduce processing times.

Control system

Units commonly feature PLC-based control systems with user-friendly interfaces for programming tumbling cycles, vacuum levels, and speeds.

Footprint

The footprint for a Multidrum can vary significantly, but buyers should anticipate needing substantial floor space, typically several square metres, plus clearance for loading/unloading.

Cleaning

Designed for easy cleaning, units often feature smooth internal surfaces and sometimes include CIP (Clean-In-Place) capabilities or easily removable components for sanitation.

• What is the primary benefit of using a vacuum tumbler like the GEA Multidrum?

Vacuum tumblers enhance product absorption of marinades and brines, reduce processing times, and can improve product texture and yield by opening up muscle fibres.

• Is this unit suitable for both wet and dry applications?

• What kind of maintenance is typically required for a GEA Multidrum?

• Can the tumbling speed and direction be adjusted?

• What safety features are commonly found on these machines?

Meat and poultry tumblers and massagers are valued for their consistent ability to enhance product texture and marinade absorption across commercial production. Buyers typically report reliable performance when used regularly, though condition of internal drums and seals warrants careful inspection on used units. Key strengths include labour savings and uniform results compared to manual methods. When purchasing secondhand, check motor function, drum integrity, and whether all safety guards remain intact. Stainless steel models tend to hold up better in demanding environments.
