Grasso Ammonia Compressor Pack

• Industrial refrigeration systems requiring low-temperature cooling.
• Large-scale food and beverage processing for chilling and freezing.
• Chemical and pharmaceutical industries for process cooling.
• Cold storage facilities and distribution centres.

Compressor type

Typically screw or reciprocating, designed for ammonia refrigerant.

Refrigerant

Ammonia (R717), known for its high efficiency and environmental profile.

Motor power

This unit is specified at 180kW; for this class, motor powers commonly range from 50kW to over 500kW.

Control system

Often features advanced PLC control, such as Siemens, for precise operation and monitoring.

Variable speed drive (VSD)

The inclusion of an inverter (VSD) is a common upgrade for energy efficiency and capacity modulation.

Operating hours

The stated 11,370 hours from new indicates moderate usage for an industrial compressor.

Footprint

For a package of this power, a significant industrial footprint is typically required, often several square metres.

• What are the main advantages of an ammonia compressor pack?

Ammonia is a highly efficient refrigerant, offering excellent thermodynamic properties and a zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) and global warming potential (GWP). These systems are robust and designed for heavy industrial use.

• Is specialist installation required for an ammonia system?

• What maintenance is typically involved with a used ammonia compressor?

• What safety considerations are there for ammonia refrigeration?

• Can this unit be integrated into an existing refrigeration system?

Used air compressors for lab and pharma applications are generally valued for reliability and cost savings. Buyers typically prioritize checking maintenance history, confirming pressure ratings meet specific requirements, and verifying oil-free operation where contamination control matters. Key strengths include durability when properly serviced, consistent performance across extended operational hours, and significant capital cost reduction compared to new units. Inspecting seals, checking for corrosion, and confirming recent servicing records are standard considerations when purchasing secondhand.
