Unknown - Stairs Access Platform

• Providing safe access over conveyors or other floor-level obstructions in production lines.
• Creating elevated workstations for inspection, maintenance, or operational tasks.
• Facilitating access to equipment mounted at height, such as tanks, mixers, or processing units.
• Serving as a crossover point for personnel in areas with restricted floor space or designated walkways.

Typical load capacity

For this class of equipment, a safe working load of 150-250 kg is commonly found, suitable for one or two operatives plus tools.

Construction material

Units are typically constructed from mild steel (painted or powder-coated) or stainless steel for hygiene-sensitive environments.

Platform height

Platform heights commonly range from 500mm to 2000mm, depending on the required access level.

Safety features

Units typically include handrails on both sides of the stairs and around the platform, along with anti-slip treads.

Footprint considerations

The overall footprint will depend on the platform size and stair angle, requiring adequate clear floor space for safe installation.

Installation

These platforms are generally freestanding or can be bolted to the floor for enhanced stability.

• What are the key safety standards for access platforms in the UK?

Access platforms should comply with relevant UK health and safety legislation, including the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and British Standards such as BS EN ISO 14122 (Safety of machinery - Permanent means of access to machinery).

• Can this type of platform be easily relocated?

• Is customisation possible for specific site requirements?

• What maintenance is typically required for an access platform?

• Are these platforms suitable for outdoor use?

Access control and production support systems are valued for their role in maintaining facility security, hygiene compliance, and operational efficiency. Buyers typically prioritise units with robust construction, clear audit trails, and compatibility with existing infrastructure. When purchasing used equipment, inspectors should verify electronic components function reliably, examine wear on access mechanisms, and confirm software licensing remains valid. Industry sentiment favours systems demonstrating consistent performance records and straightforward maintenance requirements, particularly those serving food safety standards and minimising production downtime.
