Work from the failed unit's rating plate: power, output speed or ratio, frame size, mounting position and shaft arrangement. Output speed and mounting matter more than brand, since a different make with the same figures usually fits with minor bracket work. Photograph the plate and the installed unit and send both with your enquiry.

Have an insulation resistance test done between windings and earth, turn the shaft by hand to feel for bearing roughness, and inspect the shaft and keyway for wear. On gearmotors, check the oil for metal particles and the seals for leaks. A motor that passes these checks carries little more risk than a new one.

For a drive that runs continuously, yes: the step from an older motor to an IE2 or IE3 unit repays itself in energy over a few years at typical duty cycles. For intermittent duties the saving is small. The class is marked on the plate to IEC 60034-30-1, so you can compare listings directly on it.

Most modern three phase motors accept inverter supply, but check the plate or ask the seller whether the windings are inverter rated, and derate or add forced cooling if the motor will run slowly under full load. Match the inverter to the motor's full load current, not just its kW figure, before ordering either item.

Small motors ship by courier and larger gearmotors and driven conveyor modules travel palletised on a pallet network, usually within days. Confirm the unit's weight and whether it ships drained of oil, since some gearboxes must be refilled to the correct level for their mounting position before first run. Agree offloading arrangements when you enquire.
