Barth 5 Barrel Sample

• Small-batch coffee roasting for quality control and sample evaluation.
• Developing roast profiles for new coffee beans.
• Educational purposes in coffee academies and training centres.
• Artisan coffee production for very niche markets or experimental blends.

Typical capacity

For this class of equipment, typically 5 individual roasting barrels, each handling a small sample batch (e.g., 50-200g).

Power supply

Commonly requires a 3-phase electrical connection, typically 50Hz for European operation, in addition to gas for heating.

Heating method

Units of this type commonly use gas (e.g., propane or natural gas) for the roasting process.

Control system

Vintage sample roasters typically feature manual controls for drum speed, heat, and airflow, requiring skilled operation.

Footprint

Relatively compact for a roaster, suitable for laboratory or small workshop environments.

Construction material

Typically constructed from durable metals such as cast iron and stainless steel for longevity.

• What is a sample roaster used for?

A sample roaster is primarily used for roasting small batches of coffee beans to evaluate their quality, develop roast profiles, and ensure consistency before scaling up to larger production roasters.

• What maintenance is typically required for a used sample roaster?

• Can this type of roaster be used for production?

• What kind of gas connection is needed?

• Is 3-phase power always necessary for sample roasters?

Used roasters are valued for their durability and cost effectiveness in food processing operations. Buyers typically prioritise even heat distribution, temperature control consistency, and robust construction when selecting secondhand units. Industry sentiment favours roasters from established manufacturers known for reliable performance. Key considerations include maintenance history, heating element condition, and capacity matching operational requirements. Well-maintained roasters often deliver dependable service across coffee roasting, nut processing, and other food applications, making them sound investments for processors seeking to minimise capital expenditure.
