Brook Crompton - Gearbox Motor

• Used in conveyor systems for material handling.
• Suitable for driving agitators and mixers in process applications.
• Can be found in packaging machinery for controlled movement.
• Applied in automation systems requiring precise speed and torque control.
• Utilised in various industrial machinery for power transmission.

Typical power output

For this class of gearbox motor, power output typically ranges from 0.37 kW to 7.5 kW, depending on the specific model and application requirements.

Gear ratio

Commonly, gear ratios for units of this type vary widely, often between 5:1 and 100:1, to achieve the desired output speed.

Power supply

Typically, these units operate on a three-phase AC supply, commonly 400V 50Hz in the UK, though single-phase options are available for smaller motors.

Mounting configuration

Units of this type commonly feature B3 foot mounting, as indicated by the model number, allowing for stable installation on a flat surface.

Motor frame size

The '90SA' in the model number typically indicates an IEC frame size of 90S, which defines standard motor dimensions and shaft height.

Enclosure rating

Most industrial gearbox motors are rated to at least IP54, providing protection against dust ingress and splashing water.

• What does 'B3-PTO' signify in the model number?

'B3' typically refers to a foot-mounted motor, meaning it has feet for mounting to a base. 'PTO' is not a standard motor designation but may refer to a specific seller or manufacturer's internal code or a 'Power Take-Off' shaft configuration, which should be clarified with the seller.

• Can this gearbox motor be used for variable speed applications?

• What maintenance is typically required for a used gearbox motor?

• How do I determine if this unit is suitable for my existing conveyor system?

• What is the expected lifespan of a used gearbox motor?

Buyers typically value conveyor systems for their reliability and longevity when well-maintained. Key considerations when purchasing used units include belt condition, motor functionality, frame integrity, and available spare parts. Industry sentiment emphasises the importance of verifying operational history and cleanliness standards, particularly for food handling applications. Common strengths include robust construction, relatively straightforward maintenance requirements, and cost savings versus new equipment. Reputable manufacturers' models tend to hold their value well and integrate readily into existing production lines.
