What is the primary use of Oxoid Tryptone Soya Broth?

It is a general-purpose nutrient medium used for the cultivation of a wide variety of microorganisms, including fastidious and non-fastidious bacteria and fungi.

Is this product suitable for sterility testing?

Yes, Tryptone Soya Broth (TSB) is widely recognised and used in accordance with pharmacopoeial guidelines for sterility testing of pharmaceutical products and medical devices.

How should the prepared broth be stored?

Once prepared and sterilised, the broth should typically be stored at 2-8°C to maintain its sterility and efficacy for a limited period, usually up to a few weeks.

Can this medium be used for anaerobic bacteria?

While primarily an aerobic medium, TSB can support the growth of some facultative anaerobes. For strict anaerobes, a more specific anaerobic medium or anaerobic conditions are typically required.

What is the difference between Tryptone Soya Broth and Tryptic Soy Broth?

They are essentially the same product; Tryptone Soya Broth (TSB) is also known as Tryptic Soy Broth or Soybean-Casein Digest Medium, referring to its key ingredients.

Storage conditions: Typically requires storage in a cool, dry place, away from direct light, to maintain product integrity.
Preparation method: Commonly prepared by dissolving a specific amount of powder in distilled water, followed by sterilisation via autoclaving.
pH range: For this class of medium, the final pH after preparation is typically around 7.3 ± 0.2, suitable for broad microbial growth.
Key ingredients: Contains enzymatic digests of casein and soybean meal, providing a rich source of amino acids and peptides.
Shelf life: Unopened containers typically have a shelf life of several years when stored correctly, though buyers should verify the specific expiry date.

It is a general-purpose nutrient medium used for the cultivation of a wide variety of microorganisms, including fastidious and non-fastidious bacteria and fungi.

Lab organisation and storage equipment is valued for maximising workspace efficiency and protecting sensitive materials from contamination. Buyers typically prioritise durability, proper shelving capacity, and chemical resistance when purchasing used units. Industry sentiment favours equipment with adjustable configurations to accommodate evolving laboratory needs. Common strengths include robust construction and long operational lifespan when maintained correctly. When buying used, inspectors should examine structural integrity, verify compatibility with existing lab layouts, and confirm any specialised coating or material specifications remain intact for intended applications.
