• Small-batch coffee roasting for independent cafes and artisan producers.
• Developing new roast profiles and sample roasting for larger operations.
• On-site roasting in specialty coffee shops to ensure freshness and unique offerings.
• Educational purposes in barista training centres or culinary schools.

Typical capacity

For this class of equipment, a 5-7kg batch size is common, suitable for small to medium production runs.

Power supply

Units of this type commonly require a single-phase electrical connection for motors and controls, alongside a gas supply (often propane or natural gas).

Heating method

Gas-fired hot air systems are typical, offering precise temperature control for consistent roasting.

Burner configuration

Two burners are commonly found, providing heat to the roasting chamber.

Motor and fan count

Typically, these roasters feature multiple motors and fans to manage drum rotation, airflow, and cooling.

Footprint

While specific dimensions vary, 5-7kg roasters are generally compact, suitable for spaces where larger industrial units are impractical.

Construction materials

Units are typically constructed from robust materials such as stainless steel and cast iron for durability and heat retention.

• What kind of gas supply is typically required for a roaster of this size?

Roasters in this category commonly operate on either propane (LPG) or natural gas. Buyers should confirm the specific gas setup with the seller.

• What electrical connection is usually needed?

• How important is the age of a used roaster?

• What maintenance is typically involved with a gas roaster?

• Can this type of roaster be used for products other than coffee?

Used roasters are valued for their durability and cost effectiveness in food processing operations. Buyers typically prioritise even heat distribution, temperature control consistency, and robust construction when selecting secondhand units. Industry sentiment favours roasters from established manufacturers known for reliable performance. Key considerations include maintenance history, heating element condition, and capacity matching operational requirements. Well-maintained roasters often deliver dependable service across coffee roasting, nut processing, and other food applications, making them sound investments for processors seeking to minimise capital expenditure.
