What is an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) used for?

A UPS provides emergency power to a load when the input power source or mains power fails. It also conditions the power supply, protecting connected equipment from surges, sags, and other electrical disturbances.

What is 'online double-conversion' technology?

Online double-conversion UPS systems provide the highest level of power protection. They continuously convert incoming AC power to DC to charge batteries, then convert it back to AC, ensuring a clean and stable output regardless of input fluctuations.

Are the batteries included with used UPS systems reliable?

While batteries are included with this unit, their remaining lifespan can vary significantly in used equipment. Buyers should factor in potential battery replacement costs or testing upon installation.

What kind of maintenance does a UPS system require?

Regular maintenance for a UPS typically involves battery testing and replacement, fan checks, capacitor inspections, and environmental monitoring. This ensures optimal performance and longevity.

Can this UPS be installed outdoors?

Industrial UPS systems like the Galaxy 5000 are typically designed for indoor installation in controlled environments to protect sensitive electronic components and batteries from extreme temperatures and moisture.

Typical capacity: This unit is rated at 40kVA, a common capacity for mid-sized industrial and commercial applications.
Power supply: Units of this type typically operate on a three-phase input, commonly 400V AC, to support industrial loads.
Battery autonomy: For this class of equipment, battery autonomy typically ranges from 5 to 30 minutes at full load, depending on battery configuration.
Technology: The MGE Galaxy 5000 series commonly employs online double-conversion technology for maximum power protection.
Footprint: A 40kVA UPS system, including its battery cabinet, typically requires a dedicated floor space, often around 1-2 square metres.
Cooling: Units of this capacity are typically air-cooled, requiring adequate ventilation in their installation environment.

A UPS provides emergency power to a load when the input power source or mains power fails. It also conditions the power supply, protecting connected equipment from surges, sags, and other electrical disturbances.

UPS systems are valued in labs and biotech facilities for reliable power continuity during outages. Buyers typically prioritise units with adequate capacity for critical equipment and seek models with clean power output suitable for sensitive instruments. Key considerations when purchasing used units include battery condition, service history, and remaining warranty coverage. Industry sentiment reflects strong demand for these systems due to their essential role in preventing data loss and equipment damage. Reliability and consistent performance are widely regarded as primary strengths.
