Typical capacity

This unit is specified as a 7lb (approximately 3.2 kg) roaster, which is common for small-batch production.

Heating method

Units of this type commonly utilise gas heating for the roasting drum.

Power supply

For the drum rotation and controls, typically a single-phase electrical supply (e.g., 230V, 50Hz in the UK) would be required, alongside a gas connection.

Roasting type

This class of equipment typically employs a drum roasting mechanism, suitable for even heat distribution.

Footprint

For a 7lb roaster, the footprint is generally compact, suitable for counter-top or small dedicated areas.

Material construction

Roasters of this vintage commonly feature robust cast iron and steel construction for durability.

• What maintenance is typically required for a used roaster of this age?

Regular cleaning of the drum and chaff collector is essential. Given its age, buyers should anticipate needing to check and potentially replace bearings, seals, and gas lines, and ensure all safety mechanisms are functional.

• Can this type of roaster be used for different bean types?

• What are the typical installation requirements?

• Is it possible to get spare parts for a vintage roaster like this?

• What level of skill is needed to operate a manual roaster?

Used roasters are valued for their durability and cost effectiveness in food processing operations. Buyers typically prioritise even heat distribution, temperature control consistency, and robust construction when selecting secondhand units. Industry sentiment favours roasters from established manufacturers known for reliable performance. Key considerations include maintenance history, heating element condition, and capacity matching operational requirements. Well-maintained roasters often deliver dependable service across coffee roasting, nut processing, and other food applications, making them sound investments for processors seeking to minimise capital expenditure.
