Various

• Commercial coffee roasting operations requiring batch processing of green coffee beans.
• Food processing facilities for roasting nuts, seeds, or other dry goods.
• Specialty food producers creating roasted ingredients for confectionery or bakery items.
• Large-scale snack food manufacturing for preparing roasted components.

Typical capacity

Units in this category typically handle batch sizes from 60kg upwards, often ranging to several hundred kilograms per roast.

Power supply

Commonly requires a robust three-phase electrical supply (e.g., 400V, 50Hz) for heating elements and motor operation.

Heating method

Typically gas-fired (natural gas or LPG) for primary heat, with electric elements for ancillary functions or smaller units.

Cooling system

Units of this size will feature an integrated cooling tray and fan system to rapidly cool roasted product.

Footprint

Requires significant floor space, typically several square metres, plus clearance for maintenance and bean loading/unloading.

Material construction

Roasting drums and contact parts are commonly constructed from food-grade stainless steel or cast iron for durability and heat retention.

• What maintenance is typically required for a roaster of this size?

Regular cleaning of the roasting drum, exhaust system, and cooling tray is essential. Burner inspection, belt tension checks, and lubrication of moving parts are also common maintenance tasks.

• Can these roasters handle different types of beans?

• What are the typical exhaust requirements for a roaster over 60kg?

• Is installation complex for a large roaster?

• What control systems are commonly found on these roasters?

Used roasters are valued for their durability and cost effectiveness in food processing operations. Buyers typically prioritise even heat distribution, temperature control consistency, and robust construction when selecting secondhand units. Industry sentiment favours roasters from established manufacturers known for reliable performance. Key considerations include maintenance history, heating element condition, and capacity matching operational requirements. Well-maintained roasters often deliver dependable service across coffee roasting, nut processing, and other food applications, making them sound investments for processors seeking to minimise capital expenditure.
