Washer

• Used in food processing plants for cleaning root vegetables and fruits prior to further processing.
• Suitable for commercial kitchens and catering operations requiring high-volume washing of produce.
• Integrated into production lines for preparing ingredients for ready meals, canning, or freezing.
• Utilised in agricultural settings for post-harvest cleaning of crops before packaging or storage.

Typical capacity

For this class of equipment, capacities commonly range from 500 kg/hr to several tonnes/hr, depending on design and product.

Power supply

Units of this type typically operate on 3-phase industrial power, commonly 400V, 50Hz.

Water consumption

Water usage varies significantly but typically involves a continuous or recirculating water supply, often with filtration.

Construction material

Most industrial washers are constructed from stainless steel (e.g., 304 or 316 grade) for hygiene and corrosion resistance.

Footprint

The footprint can vary from compact standalone units to larger integrated systems, typically requiring several square metres of floor space.

Washing mechanism

Common mechanisms include spray bars, rotating brushes, tumbling drums, or immersion tanks, often combined.

• What types of vegetables can this washer handle?

This type of washer is generally suitable for root vegetables like potatoes, carrots, and parsnips, as well as other firm vegetables and some fruits. The specific type of produce depends on the washer's design.

• Is this unit suitable for continuous operation?

• What maintenance is typically required for a used washer?

• Can this washer be integrated into an existing processing line?

• What are the typical water requirements?

Washers and peelers are considered reliable workhorses in food processing facilities. Buyers typically value models offering consistent performance and easy cleaning. When purchasing used equipment, inspectors commonly assess drum condition, motor functionality, and wear on rotating components. Industry sentiment favours machines with stainless steel construction for durability and hygiene compliance. Straightforward mechanical design generally means lower maintenance costs compared to more complex processing equipment. Availability of replacement parts remains an important consideration for long-term operation.
