DSI Horizontal Plate Freezers

• Rapid freezing of fish fillets, prawns, and other seafood products in blocks.
• Efficient freezing of meat products such as minced meat blocks or poultry portions.
• Industrial-scale freezing of fruit and vegetable purees or concentrates.
• Production of frozen blocks of liquid or semi-liquid food products.
• Freezing of pet food blocks for commercial distribution.

Typical capacity

For this class of equipment, freezing capacities commonly range from 500 kg/hr to several tonnes/hr, depending on product thickness and refrigerant.

Plate dimensions

As indicated, plates are 1120 x 1980 mm. Units of this type typically feature plate sizes suitable for standard block dimensions.

Number of stations

This unit has 15 stations. Horizontal plate freezers commonly feature between 10 and 30 stations.

Refrigerant compatibility

This unit is specified for R22/R717 (Ammonia). Many DSI freezers are designed for compatibility with common industrial refrigerants.

Hydraulic system

Units of this type typically incorporate hydraulic systems for plate opening and closing, ensuring consistent product compression.

Construction material

The presence of S/S hoses suggests a robust, hygienic construction, commonly found in food processing equipment.

Power supply

Typically requires a 3-phase industrial electrical supply, commonly 400V, 50Hz for UK operations, plus connections for the refrigeration plant.

• What products are best suited for a horizontal plate freezer?

Horizontal plate freezers are ideal for freezing products that can be formed into uniform blocks or slabs, such as fish fillets, minced meat, fruit purees, and certain vegetable products.

• What are the advantages of plate freezing over other freezing methods?

• Is R22 still a viable refrigerant in the UK?

• What maintenance is typically required for a plate freezer?

• Can this freezer handle different block thicknesses?

Plate freezers are valued for their efficiency in rapid product freezing across food processing applications. Buyers typically appreciate their compact footprint and consistent performance. When purchasing used equipment, inspecting plate condition for corrosion or damage is essential, as worn plates reduce freezing efficiency. Key strengths include reliable operation, relatively straightforward maintenance requirements, and suitability for batch processing. Industry sentiment favours models from established manufacturers with documented service histories. Buyers should verify refrigeration system integrity and confirm spare parts availability before committing to purchase.
