FISHTECS onboard processing

• Processing freshly caught fish directly on board fishing vessels.
• Ensuring product quality and extending shelf life through immediate processing at sea.
• Maximising catch value by producing various fish products before landing.
• Reducing land-based processing requirements and associated logistics.

Typical capacity

Varies significantly based on vessel size and specific processing modules, ranging from small-scale artisanal to large industrial throughputs.

Power supply

Commonly integrated with the vessel's existing electrical systems, typically requiring 3-phase industrial voltages appropriate for marine environments.

Processing modules

Often includes modules for gutting, heading, filleting, skinning, washing, chilling, and freezing, tailored to specific fish species.

Materials of construction

Typically marine-grade stainless steel and other corrosion-resistant materials suitable for harsh saltwater environments.

Footprint

Designed for compact integration within the limited space of a fishing vessel, with modular components to optimise layout.

Automation level

Can range from semi-automatic, requiring operator input, to highly automated systems for increased efficiency and reduced labour.

• What types of fish can this equipment process?

Onboard processing systems are typically configurable for a wide range of fish species, depending on the specific modules installed. Buyers should confirm suitability for their target species with the seller.

• Is this equipment suitable for existing vessels?

• What maintenance is typically required for onboard processing equipment?

• Are there specific regulatory requirements for onboard processing?

• Can the system be customised for specific processing needs?

Fish equipment in food processing is generally well-regarded for durability and reliability when maintained properly. Buyers typically value robust construction and ease of cleaning. When purchasing used fish processing equipment, buyers should inspect for corrosion, verify mechanical functionality, and confirm hygiene compliance standards. Common strengths include longevity with proper maintenance, straightforward operation, and cost effectiveness compared to new alternatives. Stainless steel components and established brand reliability are frequently prioritized considerations in the secondhand market.
