Agilent Technologies 2200 TapeStation

• Quality control of nucleic acid samples (DNA/RNA) in genomics and molecular biology labs.
• Analysis of protein samples for purity, concentration, and degradation.
• Fragment analysis for next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation.
• Genotyping and mutation detection applications.
• RNA integrity assessment (RIN equivalent) for gene expression studies.

Typical throughput

Typically processes 1-16 samples per run, depending on the assay and tape used.

Sample volume

Commonly requires 1-4 µL of sample per well.

Analysis time

For this class of equipment, analysis time is typically 1-2 minutes per sample.

Power supply

Units of this type commonly operate on standard laboratory power, typically 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz.

Footprint

A compact benchtop instrument, typically occupying a footprint of around 30 cm x 40 cm.

Detection method

Utilises fluorescence detection for sample analysis.

• What types of samples can the Agilent 2200 TapeStation analyse?

This system is designed for the analysis of DNA, RNA, and protein samples, providing information on size, quantity, and integrity.

• Is specialised training required to operate this equipment?

• What consumables are needed for operation?

• How does it compare to traditional gel electrophoresis?

• What maintenance is typically required for a used unit?

Electrophoresis systems and power supplies maintain solid reputations for reliability in molecular biology and genomics laboratories. Buyers typically value robust construction and stable power output when assessing used equipment. Key considerations include verifying calibration history, checking electrode condition, and confirming compliance with current safety standards. Industry sentiment favours models with straightforward maintenance records and clear documentation of previous usage. Established brands generally command confidence, though consistent performance across comparable specifications remains the primary driver of purchase decisions in this sector.
