What is the typical roasting time for a 20Kg batch?

Roasting times for a 20Kg batch can vary significantly based on the desired roast profile, bean type, and operator skill, but commonly range from 12 to 20 minutes.

What maintenance is typically required for a used coffee roaster?

Regular maintenance typically includes cleaning the roasting drum, cyclone, and cooling tray, checking gas lines and electrical connections, and inspecting moving parts for wear. Bearing lubrication and fan cleaning are also common tasks.

Can this roaster be converted to natural gas?

Many gas-fired roasters can be converted between LPG and natural gas, but this typically requires a qualified technician to change burners, jets, and adjust gas pressure regulators. Buyers should confirm with the seller or a specialist.

What are the ventilation requirements for a roaster of this size?

Proper ventilation is crucial. This typically involves ducting for exhaust gases from the roaster and cyclone, requiring a suitable extraction fan and connection to an external flue system to comply with local regulations.

What does 'as is, where is' mean for a buyer?

'As is, where is' means the equipment is sold in its current condition and location, with the buyer responsible for inspection, dismantling, loading, and transport. No warranties or guarantees are typically implied by the seller regarding its operational state post-sale.

Typical batch capacity: This '20Kg' model designation commonly refers to a nominal batch capacity of 20 kilograms of green coffee beans.
Heating method: Units of this type are typically gas-fired, often configured for LPG (propane) as mentioned, or natural gas.
Power supply: Electrical requirements for control systems and motors commonly range from single-phase 230V to three-phase 400V, depending on the specific model and region.
Chaff collection: An external cyclone, as described, is a standard component for separating and collecting chaff during the roasting process, improving air quality and roast consistency.
Cooling system: Integrated or external cooling trays are typically included to rapidly cool roasted beans, preventing over-roasting.
Typical footprint: For this class of roaster, a footprint of approximately 1.5m x 1m x 2m (LxWxH) might be expected, plus space for the cyclone and ventilation.

Used roasters are valued for their durability and cost effectiveness in food processing operations. Buyers typically prioritise even heat distribution, temperature control consistency, and robust construction when selecting secondhand units. Industry sentiment favours roasters from established manufacturers known for reliable performance. Key considerations include maintenance history, heating element condition, and capacity matching operational requirements. Well-maintained roasters often deliver dependable service across coffee roasting, nut processing, and other food applications, making them sound investments for processors seeking to minimise capital expenditure.
