Sartorius - Weighing Scales

• Used for accurate measurement of ingredients in food processing and bakeries.
• Essential for quality control in manufacturing, ensuring product consistency.
• Utilised in laboratories for precise chemical and material weighing.
• Applicable in packaging operations for verifying product weight before dispatch.

Typical capacity

For this class of equipment, capacities typically range from a few grams up to several kilograms, depending on the specific model and intended use.

Power supply

Commonly, these units operate on standard mains electricity (230V, 50Hz for the UK) or may feature internal rechargeable batteries for portability.

Readability

Precision scales typically offer readability from 0.001g to 0.1g, crucial for applications requiring high accuracy.

Platform size

Platform dimensions vary significantly; smaller analytical balances may have platforms of 80-120mm diameter, while larger precision scales could be 200x200mm or more.

Construction material

Typically, the weighing pan is stainless steel, with the housing often made from durable plastic or painted metal.

Calibration

Units of this type commonly feature internal or external calibration functions to maintain accuracy.

• What is the difference between precision scales and analytical balances?

Precision scales typically offer higher capacities and slightly lower readability (e.g., 0.01g or 0.1g), whereas analytical balances provide very high readability (e.g., 0.0001g) for smaller samples, often with draft shields.

• Is calibration necessary for used weighing scales?

• What maintenance is typically required for these scales?

• Can these scales be integrated into existing systems?

• Are there specific environmental considerations for operating these scales?

Precision and portable balances are valued for their accuracy and reliability across laboratory and pharmaceutical settings. Buyers typically seek models with proven calibration stability and minimal drift over time. When purchasing used equipment, industry practice emphasises checking calibration certificates, verifying display functionality, and confirming availability of replacement parts. These instruments are generally regarded as durable workhorses that perform well if properly maintained. Key strengths include repeatability, compact design for space-constrained labs, and compatibility with existing analytical workflows.
