Nitrogen Generators
Bottled nitrogen is a recurring bill, a manual handling task and a storage problem, and a nitrogen generator removes all three by separating nitrogen from compressed air on site. Pressure swing adsorption and membrane machines deliver purities from around 95% for purging and tyre inflation up to 99.999% for laser cutting and analytical duties, and at steady usage they pay back against cylinder contracts within a few years. Machinery Masters lists nitrogen generators from verified sellers, including self-contained Peak Scientific and Domnick Hunter units with integral compressors, so a single machine can replace a cylinder supply without touching the rest of your air system.

Nitrogen Generators Product Types
Generators divide by how they separate the nitrogen and whether they bring their own air supply. These are the machine types you will see listed.
PSA nitrogen generators
Twin-tower units using carbon molecular sieve, such as the Domnick Hunter Nitrox range, that swing between adsorption and regeneration to deliver purities up to 99.999%. The standard choice for high-purity industrial duties.
Self-contained generators with integral compressor
Cabinet units, such as the Peak Scientific Corona generators paired with their own compressors, that need only a power socket. Suited to point-of-use duties where no plant air exists or its quality cannot be guaranteed.
Membrane nitrogen generators
Hollow-fibre units with no moving parts in the separation stage, delivering moderate purities of roughly 95 to 99% continuously. A simple, low-maintenance fit for blanketing, purging and tyre inflation duties.
High-purity cabinet units
Quiet, enclosed generators built for staffed areas such as test rooms and quality departments, delivering small flows at high purity. Many arrive from decommissioned facilities with low hours.

Why Choose Machinery Masters
Verified Sellers Only
Every seller is verified before a single listing goes live. Machinery Masters also reviews listings for accuracy, so buyers can commit to high value machinery with confidence.
Global Reach
Listings come from sellers across Europe, North America, and beyond. That reach widens the options past any regional dealer network, and it is often the only way to find discontinued models in good condition.
Flexible Financing Options
Qualifying listings carry financing through partner providers. Terms are shown directly on eligible product pages, spreading the cost instead of draining working capital in one hit.
Direct Seller Contact
No broker sits between the buyer and the seller. Ask about service history, arrange inspections, and negotiate directly with the person who actually knows the machine.
Applications and Uses
On-site nitrogen earns its keep wherever gas is consumed steadily rather than occasionally. These are the industrial duties that drive demand.
Laser and plasma cutting
High-purity nitrogen as assist gas keeps cut edges on stainless and aluminium clean and oxide-free. Generators sized for cutting usually feed a buffer vessel and booster to meet the machine's pressure demand.
Tank blanketing and pipeline purging
Nitrogen displaces oxygen above stored liquids and inside vessels and pipework before hot work or product changes. Moderate purity suffices, which keeps the generator small and the running cost low.
Electronics and soldering lines
Reflow and selective soldering under nitrogen reduces oxidation and improves joint quality. Steady shift-long consumption is exactly the demand profile where generation beats cylinders.
Fleet and tyre workshops
Nitrogen tyre inflation holds pressure longer than air, and a small membrane or PSA unit plugged into the workshop's existing compressed air supply covers the duty without cylinder deliveries.
Benefits from Machinery Masters
A generator purchase replaces a supply contract, so the buying decision rests on numbers the marketplace helps you gather.
01
Purity and flow options side by side
Membrane, PSA and self-contained generators appear in one category, so the purity your process needs can be matched against flow and price across several sellers in one pass.
02
Shorter payback on the same machine
A used generator in sound condition makes the same gas as a new one, and the lower capital cost shortens the payback against your current cylinder or mini-bulk contract.
03
Condition established with the seller
Hours run, sieve or membrane condition and service history come directly from the verified seller through the listing, before the machine is yours to prove.
Frequently Asked Questions About Nitrogen Generators
Purging, blanketing and tyre inflation typically run at 95 to 99%, soldering commonly at 99.9 to 99.999%, and laser cutting of stainless at the top of that range. Higher purity costs disproportionately more feed air, so do not specify beyond the process requirement. Check your process documentation or gas supplier specification before shortlisting machines.
PSA and membrane generators need clean, dry compressed air, normally to ISO 8573-1 quality with oil removal and a dryer upstream, and they consume several times more air than the nitrogen they produce, rising steeply with purity. Self-contained units with integral compressors avoid the question. Confirm your compressor has spare capacity before adding a generator to the line.
The economics favour generation when usage is steady: no rental, delivery charges or handling, and the gas cost falls to electricity and maintenance. At consistent daily consumption, payback against a cylinder contract commonly lands within two to four years, and a used machine shortens it further. Put your last year of gas invoices beside the listing price and calculate.
Ask for hours run, service records and when the carbon molecular sieve or membranes were last replaced, since these are the costly consumables. On PSA units, confirm the changeover valves cycle correctly and that any oxygen analyser has a calibration record. A generator demonstrated producing at its rated purity answers most questions at once.
Usually not on its own: laser assist gas demands both high purity and delivery pressures well above a generator's output, so most installations add a buffer vessel and a nitrogen booster between generator and machine. Check your cutter's required pressure and flow at the nozzle, then ask the seller whether the listed system includes the buffer and booster.
