Rotary Vane Pumps
Reaching a deep, stable vacuum for freeze drying, degassing or evaporation usually means a rotary vane pump. Sliding vanes in an eccentric rotor sweep gas out of the chamber, and an oil seal lets these pumps pull far lower pressures than a dry diaphragm unit. Buyers weigh the ultimate vacuum, the pumping speed and whether an oil sealed or dry design suits their process and maintenance appetite. Listings here set out the vacuum rating and displacement so you can match a pump to your application. Contact the seller to confirm the pump reaches the vacuum your process needs.

Rotary Vane Pump Types
Within the broader liquid handling, pumps and fluid control category, rotary vane pumps divide by whether they are oil sealed or dry and by how many stages they run. The variants suit different vacuum depths and cleanliness needs.
Single stage oil sealed pumps
One rotor stage with an oil seal that reaches a solid rough to medium vacuum. They serve filtration, degassing and general lab vacuum duties.
Two stage oil sealed pumps
Two rotor stages in series that pull a deeper vacuum for demanding work. They suit freeze drying and high vacuum support where a single stage falls short.
Dry rotary vane pumps
Oil free vane designs that avoid oil mist and contamination in the pumped gas. They suit clean processes where oil back streaming is unacceptable.
Chemical duty vane pumps
Corrosion resistant vane pumps built to handle solvent vapours and reactive gases. Protective coatings and gas ballast extend life on aggressive duties.

Why Choose Machinery Masters
Verified Sellers Only
Every seller is verified before a single listing goes live. Machinery Masters also reviews listings for accuracy, so buyers can commit to high value machinery with confidence.
Global Reach
Listings come from sellers across Europe, North America, and beyond. That reach widens the options past any regional dealer network, and it is often the only way to find discontinued models in good condition.
Flexible Financing Options
Qualifying listings carry financing through partner providers. Terms are shown directly on eligible product pages, spreading the cost instead of draining working capital in one hit.
Direct Seller Contact
No broker sits between the buyer and the seller. Ask about service history, arrange inspections, and negotiate directly with the person who actually knows the machine.
Applications and Uses
These pumps supply the deeper vacuum that many lab and process tasks require. These settings show where they fit.
Freeze drying support
Providing the deep vacuum a lyophiliser needs to sublimate ice from frozen product. A two stage pump holds the low pressure the cycle demands.
Solvent evaporation
Drawing vacuum for rotary evaporation and concentration to lower boiling points. Steady pumping keeps distillation controlled.
Degassing and drying
Removing dissolved gas and moisture from liquids and chambers. The low ultimate pressure pulls trapped gas out effectively.
Backing high vacuum pumps
Acting as the backing pump ahead of a turbo or diffusion pump. The vane pump establishes the rough vacuum the high vacuum stage needs.
Benefits from Machinery Masters
The marketplace lists rotary vane pumps across vacuum depths and duties with the detail you need to specify.
01
Deep vacuum options in one category
Single stage, two stage and dry vane designs sit together for straightforward comparison, so you match the ultimate vacuum to your process.
02
Refurbished rotary vane pumps for less
A used rotary vane pump with new vanes and clean oil reaches its rated vacuum for less than a new unit, and the saving covers oil and a service kit.
03
Vacuum performance confirmed by the seller
You ask the seller for the achieved ultimate vacuum and recent service history, which confirms the pump meets your process before purchase.
Frequently Asked Questions About Rotary Vane Pumps
Match the pump's ultimate vacuum to the lowest pressure your process reaches, since freeze drying and high vacuum backing need far deeper vacuum than filtration. A two stage pump pulls lower than a single stage, which matters for lyophilisation. Note the pressure your process must hold and add margin. Give that figure to the seller and they can confirm the pump reaches it.
Oil sealed pumps reach a deeper vacuum and cost less, but they need oil changes and can back stream oil vapour into the system. Dry pumps avoid oil contamination, which matters for clean and sensitive processes, at a higher price. Weigh the vacuum depth you need against the cleanliness your process demands. The seller can advise which type the listing is and how it was used.
Regular oil changes are the key task, because contaminated oil degrades the vacuum and shortens vane life. Using the gas ballast when pumping vapours helps keep the oil clean. Ask the seller when the oil and vanes were last changed and whether they saw solvent vapour service. Good oil discipline keeps these pumps reaching their rated vacuum for years.
Standard pumps tolerate some vapour with the gas ballast open, but heavy or corrosive vapours call for a chemical duty pump with protective measures. Solvent that condenses in the oil degrades performance and corrodes internals. Describe the vapours your process produces to the seller so they can confirm the pump suits. A chemical resistant model or an inlet trap protects the pump on aggressive duties.
Ask the seller for a recent measurement of the ultimate vacuum taken with a gauge on the inlet. Because you contact the seller directly, you can request a short video showing the reading. Sellers are vetted on the platform, giving the pump exchange added trust. Agree an inspection or test before you complete the purchase.
