Gram - Horizontal Plate Freezer With Compressor

• Rapid freezing of packaged food products such as fish fillets, meat blocks, and vegetables.
• Suitable for batch freezing operations in food processing plants.
• Used in seafood processing for freezing individual blocks or trays of product.
• Applicable in bakeries for freezing dough or prepared meals.

Freezing stations

This unit is described as a 6-station model; horizontal plate freezers commonly feature between 4 and 20 stations.

Plate dimensions

Typically, plates for this class of equipment range from 1000mm x 600mm to 2000mm x 1200mm, depending on the model and manufacturer.

Refrigerant type

Units of this age and type commonly use refrigerants such as R404A or R507. Buyers should confirm the specific refrigerant with the seller.

Power supply

Industrial plate freezers typically require a 3-phase electrical supply, commonly 400V, 50Hz in the UK, with varying amperage requirements based on compressor size.

Throughput

Throughput is highly dependent on product type, thickness, and initial/final temperatures, but units of this size can process several hundred kilograms per hour in optimal conditions.

Footprint

Self-contained horizontal plate freezers with integrated compressors and condensers, like this Gram unit, typically have a larger footprint than remote systems, requiring adequate floor space and ventilation.

• What is a horizontal plate freezer?

A horizontal plate freezer freezes products by direct contact between the product and refrigerated plates. Products are loaded between the plates, which are then hydraulically pressed together to ensure efficient heat transfer.

• What are the advantages of a self-contained unit?

• What type of products are suitable for this freezer?

• What maintenance is typically required for a used plate freezer?

• Can this unit be used for unpackaged products?

Plate freezers are valued for their efficiency in rapid product freezing across food processing applications. Buyers typically appreciate their compact footprint and consistent performance. When purchasing used equipment, inspecting plate condition for corrosion or damage is essential, as worn plates reduce freezing efficiency. Key strengths include reliable operation, relatively straightforward maintenance requirements, and suitability for batch processing. Industry sentiment favours models from established manufacturers with documented service histories. Buyers should verify refrigeration system integrity and confirm spare parts availability before committing to purchase.
