What is an impeller transfer pump best suited for?

Impeller pumps are well-suited for transferring a wide range of liquids, particularly those with some viscosity or containing soft solids, due to their gentle pumping action.

Can this pump handle abrasive products?

While capable of handling some solids, impeller pumps are generally not ideal for highly abrasive products, as this can lead to accelerated wear on the impeller and housing. The 'last used on oil' suggests it was not used for abrasive media.

What maintenance is typically required for an impeller pump?

Routine maintenance typically involves checking and replacing seals, inspecting the impeller for wear or damage, and ensuring motor bearings are in good condition. Regular cleaning is essential in food applications.

Is this pump suitable for CIP (Cleaning-In-Place)?

Many impeller pumps, especially those from food factories, are designed to be CIP-compatible, allowing for automated cleaning without disassembly. Buyers should confirm the specific unit's CIP capabilities with the seller.

What should I consider regarding the 'last used on oil' information?

This indicates the pump was handling a non-corrosive, non-abrasive product. It suggests the internal components are likely in good condition regarding chemical exposure, but a thorough cleaning and inspection are always recommended before use with a new product.

Typical context for this category of equipment. Always confirm specifics with the seller.

Transferring viscous liquids and slurries in food processing.
Moving edible oils, sauces, and dairy products.
Handling delicate products with minimal shear.
Circulating cleaning-in-place (CIP) solutions.

Typical capacity: Impeller pumps for food applications typically offer flow rates ranging from 500 to 20,000 litres per hour, depending on impeller design and motor power.
Power supply: Commonly found on units of this type are 400V, 3-phase electrical supplies, though smaller units may use 230V, 1-phase.
Materials of construction: Given its 'ex food factory' status, the wetted parts, including the impeller and housing, are typically constructed from food-grade stainless steel (e.g., 304 or 316).
Connection type: For this class of equipment, connections are commonly hygienic clamp (e.g., Tri-Clamp) or RJT fittings, suitable for food industry standards.
Port size: Typically, port sizes range from 1.5 inches to 4 inches, influencing the maximum flow rate and solids handling capability.
Typical operating temperature: Units of this type are generally designed to operate within typical food processing temperatures, often up to 90-100°C for product transfer and CIP.

Impeller pumps are well-suited for transferring a wide range of liquids, particularly those with some viscosity or containing soft solids, due to their gentle pumping action.

Food processing pumps are valued for reliability and durability in continuous operations. Buyers typically prioritise corrosion resistance, hygiene compliance, and consistent flow rates. When purchasing used units, inspecting seals, impellers and motor condition proves essential. Industry sentiment favours models with straightforward maintenance requirements and availability of spare parts. Stainless steel construction and gentle handling capabilities for delicate products are consistently sought features.
