What is the typical footprint required for a goods lift?

The footprint varies significantly based on platform size and lifting capacity. Buyers should account for the lift shaft dimensions plus space for loading/unloading and maintenance access.

Are goods lifts subject to specific regulations in the UK?

Yes, goods lifts must comply with relevant UK safety standards, including the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations and LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998) for in-service inspections.

Can this type of lift be used to transport personnel?

No, goods lifts are specifically designed for material handling and are not certified for carrying personnel. Personnel lifts (passenger lifts) have different safety requirements and design standards.

What kind of maintenance is typically required for a used goods lift?

Regular maintenance, including lubrication, inspection of hydraulic systems, electrical components, and safety features, is crucial. Annual or bi-annual servicing by a qualified engineer is commonly recommended.

Is installation included when purchasing a used goods lift?

Installation is typically a separate service and not usually included in the purchase price of a used unit. Buyers should factor in professional installation costs and potential site modifications.

Power supply: Most industrial goods lifts operate on a 3-phase electrical supply, typically 400V.
Installation type: Can be installed self-supporting, or require fixing to an existing building structure.
Safety features: Typically include interlocked gates, emergency stop buttons, and overload protection.

Goods and mezzanine lifts are valued for efficient vertical material handling in warehouses and distribution centres. Buyers typically prioritize load capacity, safety certifications, and maintenance history when purchasing used units. Industry sentiment reflects strong demand for these lifts due to their reliability and space-saving benefits. Key considerations include structural compatibility with existing facilities, age of hydraulic or mechanical systems, and availability of spare parts. Well-maintained examples offer excellent value, though thorough inspection of lifting mechanisms and safety features remains essential before purchase.
