What is a make-up line?

A make-up line is an automated or semi-automated system used in bakeries and food production to form, cut, and process dough into finished or semi-finished products.

What does 'twin cut station' mean?

A twin cut station indicates the line is equipped with two cutting mechanisms, allowing for increased production speed or the ability to create two different product types or sizes simultaneously.

Can this line handle different types of dough?

Typically, make-up lines are designed to handle a range of dough consistencies, though specific tooling and settings may be required for optimal performance with very different dough types.

What kind of maintenance is required for such equipment?

Regular cleaning, lubrication of moving parts, and inspection of belts, rollers, and cutting tools are typically required to ensure consistent operation and product quality.

Is additional tooling always necessary?

While some basic tooling may be included, additional tooling is often required to produce a wider variety of specific product shapes and sizes, as noted in the listing.

What space considerations are important?

Beyond the line's length, adequate space for operator access, maintenance, and material handling (e.g., dough loading, finished product collection) should be considered.

Producing laminated dough products such as croissants and Danish pastries.

Typical line length: Make-up lines of this type commonly range from 6 to 12 metres, with this unit being at the upper end of that range.
Throughput: Throughput for this class of equipment typically depends on product complexity and operator efficiency, often achieving several hundred pieces per hour.
Power supply: Units of this nature commonly require a 3-phase electrical supply, typically 400V, 50Hz.
Air supply: Pneumatic components are often present, requiring a compressed air supply, typically 6-8 bar.
Material compatibility: Designed for processing various dough types, from shortcrust to laminated doughs.
Footprint: A 26ft (approximately 8m) make-up line with a twin cut station will require a significant linear footprint within a production area.
Tooling: Versatility is often enhanced by a range of interchangeable tooling for different product shapes and sizes.

Forming machines are regarded as reliable workhorses in food processing facilities. Buyers typically value consistent output quality and durability when selecting used units. Key considerations include checking wear on forming dies, verifying production speed capabilities, and assessing maintenance history. These machines generally perform well with minimal downtime when properly maintained. Common strengths include straightforward operation, compatibility with various food products, and long operational lifespan. Inspecting hydraulic systems and electrical components thoroughly before purchase remains essential.
