Probat LP5

• Small to medium-scale coffee roasting operations.
• Specialty coffee shops looking to roast their own beans.
• Pilot plants for coffee bean development and testing.
• Artisan food producers expanding into coffee roasting.

Typical batch capacity

For this class of equipment, batch capacities commonly range from 5kg to 15kg of green coffee beans.

Heat source

Units of this type are typically gas-fired, often configurable for natural gas or propane, as this unit is.

Power supply

While larger industrial roasters often require three-phase power, smaller units like the LP5 can be adapted for single-phase, as indicated by the inverter drive.

Roasting method

Probat LP series roasters typically employ a drum roasting method, known for consistent heat transfer and flavour development.

Footprint

For an LP5, a typical footprint would require approximately 1.5m x 1m of floor space, plus clearance for maintenance and operation.

Cooling

Integrated cooling trays with agitators are standard for rapidly cooling roasted beans to prevent over-roasting.

• What maintenance is typically required for a used Probat LP5?

Regular maintenance for a used LP5 often includes checking and replacing bearings, inspecting and cleaning airflow components, and ensuring all safety features are operational. The seller has highlighted specific parts requiring attention on this unit.

• Can this roaster be converted to a different gas type?

• What is the expected lifespan of a Probat LP5?

• Are spare parts readily available for older Probat models?

• What are the considerations for installing a roaster of this size?

Used roasters are valued for their durability and cost effectiveness in food processing operations. Buyers typically prioritise even heat distribution, temperature control consistency, and robust construction when selecting secondhand units. Industry sentiment favours roasters from established manufacturers known for reliable performance. Key considerations include maintenance history, heating element condition, and capacity matching operational requirements. Well-maintained roasters often deliver dependable service across coffee roasting, nut processing, and other food applications, making them sound investments for processors seeking to minimise capital expenditure.
