What is the typical roasting time for a 15 kg batch?

Roasting times vary based on desired roast profile and bean type, but typically range from 12 to 20 minutes per batch for equipment of this capacity.

What kind of ventilation is required?

Batch roasters require robust ventilation to extract exhaust gases, smoke, and heat. This typically involves a dedicated exhaust system with appropriate ducting and often an afterburner for emissions control.

Can this machine roast different types of coffee beans?

Yes, a well-maintained batch roaster with good control over temperature and airflow can be used to roast various coffee bean origins and achieve different roast profiles, from light to dark.

What maintenance is typically involved with a used batch roaster?

Regular maintenance includes cleaning the roasting drum, chaff collector, and cooling tray, checking burner components, inspecting electrical connections, and lubricating moving parts. The condition of wear parts like bearings and seals should also be assessed.

Is training usually required to operate a coffee roaster of this size?

Yes, operating a commercial coffee roaster effectively requires training in roasting principles, machine operation, safety procedures, and maintenance to achieve consistent quality and maximise efficiency.

Typical batch capacity: For this class of equipment, a 15 kg batch roaster processes 15 kilograms of green coffee per roasting cycle.
Roasting method: Units of this type commonly utilise hot air circulation for consistent and controlled roasting.
Power supply: Industrial batch roasters typically require a three-phase electrical supply, commonly 400V, 50Hz, with specific amperage varying by model.
Heat source: Commonly gas (LPG or natural gas) or electric heating elements are used for air heating.
Footprint: A 15 kg batch roaster typically requires a dedicated area for the machine itself, plus space for green bean storage, roasted bean cooling, and exhaust ducting.
Chaff collection: Units commonly feature an integrated or external chaff collector, as noted by the 'new husk chamber' on this specific unit.

Roasting times vary based on desired roast profile and bean type, but typically range from 12 to 20 minutes per batch for equipment of this capacity.

Used roasters are valued for their durability and cost effectiveness in food processing operations. Buyers typically prioritise even heat distribution, temperature control consistency, and robust construction when selecting secondhand units. Industry sentiment favours roasters from established manufacturers known for reliable performance. Key considerations include maintenance history, heating element condition, and capacity matching operational requirements. Well-maintained roasters often deliver dependable service across coffee roasting, nut processing, and other food applications, making them sound investments for processors seeking to minimise capital expenditure.
